“Weak ass shit,” Ham said after Gauge failed to sink the seven.
“Fuck you,” Gauge shot back.
Slick leaned forward, preparing his shot. It was me and him against the bickering old married couple. Ham and Gauge were tighter than anyone around the club, which said a fuck of a lot, but the two of them were always going after each other. Usually, I found it amusing like everyone else, but I’d been harboring a shit mood I couldn’t shake.
The same mood that started up about the time Candy ignored my ass.
Today had been an experiment of sorts, coming to the clubhouse to hang with whatever brothers were around instead of working my ass off at the gym then going home to an empty apartment.
It was going fine, but I was also jonesing to go hit something.
Slick sunk our last ball and called his shot for the eight. “Right corner.”
As he went to get in position, Ham’s phone rang. “I swear to fuck if that’s my crazy ass woman again…”
Gauge jumped in, “You do whatever she damn well wants like any other time she calls?”
He wasn’t wrong. The only person that gave Ham more hit than Gauge was his woman, and in turn, he pretty much worshiped the ground she walked on. But Max was a good woman, and she was feisty as hell. A good match for the giant of a brother who usually got his way just because most people didn’t want to fuck with someone his size. Max wasn’t intimidated. Hell, she made sure there was no mistake that she found her man being massive to be all kinds of appealing—the oversharing just another thing the two loudmouths had in common.
Ham looked at the screen as he swiped and answered, “Yeah?”
Slick took his shot, sinking the eight and winning us the game. Gauge groaned, but Ham didn’t react, still listening to whoever was on the line.
“We’ll be right there.”
Shit. Something was up.
“Saddle up, boys. Daz says he needs whoever we’ve got around at Candy Shop.”
My pulse picked up.
“He say why?” Slick shot back.
“No, but the brother is fucking pissed,” Ham answered, already turning to head in the direction of Stone’s office. The prez was the only other person around at the moment.
I didn’t wait to see if the rest of the brothers were moving, I was already on the way to my bike. There was no reason to assume it had anything to do with her, but that was exactly where my mind had gone. If she was in some kind of trouble, if something happened to her…
There’d be hell to pay.
